Soon after Frances’ unexpected divorce, she packs her car and travels to Synaxis, Georgia, to a house she bought without ever even having seen photographs of the place. The description furnished by the Atlanta attorney handling the sale had made the place sound like an ideal home for her, and it was affordable. What she finds upon arrival in Synaxis is so shocking and so vastly different from what she expected that she immediately calls the attorney to demand her money back. Soon after she is told by the attorney that the sale is final and there is no way he can refund her money, Frances begins to view the place within a different light. Before long, she not only begins to experience remarkable and wonderful changes in her life, but so do the citizens of Synaxis.
