It begins in 1839 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and in the Abbeville District of South Carolina. It is about two parallel journeys and the unusual circumstances that brought a young man and woman to the same settlement in America, and how they found each other. It is also an adventure about the formative years of this nation and the courage it took to abandon the familiar life to seek a new life and better opportunity.
