by Clemens A. Schrock
This book begins with a brief exploration of the European origins of the people known as the Amish. The first Protestants were separated from the Roman Catholic Church in the Sixteenth Century. After one hundred and sixty-eight years had gone by, a smaller group calling for reform withdrew from the other Protestants of that day and became known as the Amish. The author traces some of his own ancestors’ involvement in those tumultuous events. He proceeds to describe his childhood and teen years in a strict Amish family, giving intimate glimpses into family and church life and customs. The reader will share in his struggles and joys as the author recounts the events that led to his separation from the Amish lifestyle.
