In Trading Sunshine for Rain, the author recounts the story of Bill and Margaret White, who responded—early in their ministry—to God’s call to serve in Alaska. They arrived in Ketchikan, Alaska, on June 7, 1960. They had married and entered ministry together in Florida only two years earlier. Now they faced the greatest challenge they could imagine. Alaska was a genuine harvest field with opportunities abounding in every direction. However, to make the most of such opportunities, the Whites knew they had to commit themselves wholeheartedly and long-term to their God-given task. They had left the comfort of family, friends, and well-known surroundings to serve God in an entirely unfamiliar setting. The mission field lay before them ripe for the harvest, and they determined to make any necessary sacrifices to fulfill the call that God had placed upon their lives. After almost five decades, they, without question, have fulfilled that commitment and continue to serve in the place they so deeply love—Ketchikan and the surrounding Inside Passage Region.
